Words Matter

“Conversation is so much more than words: a conversation is eyes, the smile, and the silences between words.” -Annika Thor

I came to this space thinking that if I could just write out what was going on, that it would fix me. That somehow words on a screen sent out to whoever cared enough to read would somehow heal me.

A lot’s changed in the last three and half years. What I realized in the process of trying to quiet the noise is that none of this is about me. It’s never really been about me.

At my age, I know everything and nothing about life. I say both everything and nothing, because I know what it’s taken to get me here, but I know nothing about what’s to come. And I want to spend the rest of my life learning and growing and offering whatever fragments of wisdom I have to anyone willing to listen.

What I’ve learned, especially in the last three and half years since starting this blog, is that this life has nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with the goodness and the love that we put into the world. I started this blog because I was heartbroken, tired and in my mind, needed an outlet to heal. The notebooks I carried around with me everywhere I went just weren’t doing my thoughts any justice.

Writing, words, reading and life have taught me so much in the last three and half years. But what I’m learning the most is the importance of connections. Relationships are so important — the ones that are real and true. The people who fight for you, fight with you, celebrate with you and sit next to you when you are in the thick of life. The ones who cheer you on, practice happiness and grace when they, themselves, are struggling to find their own. People matter, conversations matter, words matter.

The truth behind it all is that, people will never stay as long as you want them to. But I’ll tell you a secret; they’ll always stay as long as you need them to. That’s something I keep learning over and over again. You will meet people who will turn your life upside down. They’ll come in, they’ll teach you something, and you’ll grow. You will laugh and learn from them. And you’ll wonder where the hell they were before you met them.

They’ll be incredible forces in your life. And sometimes, as quickly as they came by, they’ll leave. And it’s disheartening and unfair and sometimes cruel, but you’ll carry in your heart that you are better because of them. You’ll keep their memories, their wisdom, and their words.

Because at the end of the day, I need you to believe that words matter.

Thoughts Of The Month

RainRippleApril

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” Mark 10 2-16

Yikes! It’s been too long.

Dear Allergies and Sinuses, I despise you!!!!

April Showers … Bring May Flowers

Easter is the re-newel of life for me. Not sure if Jesus died on this particular day, but I am glad we celebrate now, at just this special time. How can anyone not believe that there is something bigger than we; when the plants come to life and the birds sing their spring songs. I am in awe! Each season brings their joys, but spring IS like the bringer of life.

I have to also add that, I love Easter. It is so cute to see little kids search for Easter eggs and get all excited about finding them. It is almost as exciting as watching them at Christmas!

The Easter bunny came to visit us and left us some good treats;-)

Little sad right now because my husband is not feeling his best. I hate when his back is hurting. My wish always is that he feels the BEST in the world, at all times in his life no matter what, because that is what he is to me, THE BEST! Guess I’ll just have to take care and love him more and more so this doesn’t keep happening. Love you babi!

Ah yes, the waiting …

Sunday, 03/22/15

the waiting

“”Anticipation … it’s making me wait, it’s keeping me waiting …”- Carly Simon

Really, I love the magic hour of dawn when the sun’s very first rays peek over the horizon.

It is definitely days like today that make me really excited for summer weather.

Sunshine, cool breeze, no need for a sweater & windows all open.

Bring it on!

Mostly Just Words

Saturday, 02/28/15

PamiWeather

“Don’t move the way fear makes you move, move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.”–Osho

I know I have slowed down quite a bit on blogging. I am writing only on Saturdays of late. I think the holidays put me in a little bit of an over-excited mood, and I’m just now getting out of it. I also started a new job that keeps me busy- especially with a traffic filled commute there and back, but I absolutely love the job and the people I work with!

I’ve come to realize that I, or anyone for that matter, will never be completely done figuring life out. I think when I was younger I thought that once I graduated high school and college, and then got married, I was pretty much set and wouldn’t really have to make any major decisions any more. But that was definitely not the case.

I find myself getting worrisome, trying to figure out am I where I should be in my life. Before my mom passed, I wanted to continue my nursing education, but since the loss of my mom, the desire of nursing is no longer there. But sometimes I wonder if I should I force myself to go back to school? Full-time? Part-time? Or Not at all? I always feel like I should be and can be doing more. Most of the time that’s a good thing, but other times I worry myself. I like to know all the answers right now. Sometimes I just want someone to tell me exactly what my life’s path is, so that I can go in that direction without making any mistakes or having any setbacks, or choosing a path that ends up leading to nowhere. But that’s not how life works.

David, my husband, is the complete opposite in that way, and he keeps my mind calm. He reminds me to relax, not worry so much and slow down. He tells me, “answers will come, opportunities will present themselves if and when they’re meant to be, and Heavenly Father will allow doors to open and others to close when the timing is right.”

How grateful I am to know that although I don’t know the exact plan and path of my life, there is someone else who does.

In My Eyes I See Perfection

“Real love is when you go through the toughest storm and find yourself still holding hands when you come out.”

Because he inspires me:

“I’ll be your dream I’ll be your wish
I’ll be your fantasy

I’ll be your hope I’ll be your love
Be everything that you need

I’ll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do …”

I love this Man

Sunday, 02/15/15

DavidPami

“Two hearts that have been merged is marriage; two souls that have been merged is fate.”

Because I love you David and ALWAYS will:

Earlier this cold Sunday morning around 7am, I was lying in bed and I had just awakened from a wonderful night’s sleep with my husband. I don’t think in the past (almost) fourteen years that we have been together; he has rarely awakened before me. (Alarm clocks don’t count) I sleep very lightly, so I am up all the time in the night and a nap is almost impossible.

I actually don’t mind, I love to be the first up on our days off. These few minutes before he wakes up, are one of my favorite times of the day. David looks so adorable and peaceful when he is sleeping … minus the occasional snore here or there. But nevertheless, it’s such a perfect time of day when the house is quiet and still and all I can hear is the sound of our breathing. It’s the moments like these that I realize how blessed I am to have him in my life. And how thankful I am for our marriage and the loving bond we share! 🙂

I can’t imagine my life without him in it; he is such a big part of me and who I am.

There is this amazing verse in the bible about love that I am literally obsessed with! On our tenth anniversary I want to make him a blanket and stitch this quote onto it. We even put this verse into our wedding readings. Almost every single time I hear it, the first person that comes to my mind is David.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps not record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects, trust, always hopes and always preserves.
-1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
There is nothing love cannot face;
There is no limit to its faith, hope and endurance.
In a word there are three things that last forever:
Faith, Hope, and Love;
But the greatest of them all is love.

Sorry for the mushy lovey dovey … Well, actually, I’m not sorry for how I feel 🙂

Meanwhile, Happy February Everyone!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Saturday, 02/14/15

SunsetPami

“See there’s this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It’s the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.”

Because I love you David and ALWAYS will:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach, when feeling out of sight for the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of every day’s most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion put to use in my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints,

I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears, of all my life!

And, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.

– – – – How Do I Love Thee?
(Sonnet 43 from “Sonnets from the Portuguese”)
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning ca. 1845–1846
